Every November, we pause to honor the rich traditions, enduring strength, and invaluable contributions of Native American communities. For The Colours Foundation, this month is an opportunity to reflect on how deeply interconnected our stories of service, resilience, and identity truly are—especially among Native American women veterans whose sacrifices often go unseen and unsung.
A Legacy of Service
Native Americans have served in the U.S. Armed Forces at higher rates per capita than any other ethnic group. From the legendary Navajo Code Talkers of World War II to today’s Native women serving across all branches of the military, their courage and dedication exemplify a legacy of strength rooted in community, honor, and protection.
Yet, even with this proud history, Native women veterans often face unique challenges—barriers to healthcare access, underrepresentation in veteran support programs, and the lasting impact of cultural erasure. At The Colours Foundation, we see them. We honor them. And we’re committed to ensuring that every woman veteran of color receives the recognition, resources, and respect she deserves.
Resilience and Renewal
This month reminds us that honoring Native heritage is not only about remembrance—it’s about renewal. It’s about listening to stories that have been silenced and amplifying voices that deserve to be heard. It’s about creating space where Indigenous wisdom and modern advocacy meet, where healing and heritage walk hand in hand.
As we celebrate Native American Heritage Month, let us continue to build unity through understanding. Let’s remember that diversity is not just something we acknowledge—it’s something we live, uplift, and protect.
How We Can All Take Part
Learn and listen: Engage with Native-led organizations, stories, and educational resources.
Support Indigenous communities: Shop from Native-owned businesses and artists.
Stand with Native women veterans: Advocate for equitable healthcare, housing, and mental health support.
Together, we honor the past, uplift the present, and strengthen the future.
The Colours Foundation proudly stands with Native American women veterans—and all women of color who have served our nation with honor, courage, and compassion.
